VineWorks Viticulturist Achieves Prestigious UK Agronomy Certifications

VineWorks is proud to announce that its Senior Viticulturist, Charles Martin, has successfully achieved two of the UK’s most respected professional qualifications in agronomy: the BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection in Commercial Horticulture and the FACTS (Fertiliser Advisers Certification and Training Scheme) qualification in Commercial Horticulture.

These certifications represent a significant benchmark in technical expertise, demonstrating advanced knowledge in crop protection, soil health, nutrient management, and sustainable agricultural practices framed around Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Achieving both qualifications requires rigorous study, practical understanding, and a deep commitment to responsible land stewardship.

In the UK, there are very few agronomists who specialise specifically in viticulture. VineWorks is therefore uniquely positioned to offer clients access to this level of expertise, combining vineyard-focused knowledge with formally recognised agronomic credentials.

Reflecting on the journey, Charles shared insights into the challenges and rewards of undertaking these qualifications in the May 2026 issue of Vineyard Magazine. His experience highlights the intensity of the training and the importance of continual learning in modern viticulture. You can read more about his journey here.

As Charles puts it:

“A single teaspoon of healthy soil contains more micro-organisms than there are people on the planet, so we had better look after them.

This philosophy underpins VineWorks’ approach - placing soil health, sustainability, and precision agronomy at the heart of vineyard management.

With these achievements, VineWorks continues to strengthen its position as a leading provider of expert viticultural consultancy in the UK, delivering science-led, environmentally responsible solutions to vineyard owners and managers.
