The UK’s Leading Vineyard Services Company Since 2006

VineWorks was founded on the simple premise that quality wine starts on the vine.

While studying for my BSc (Hons) in Viticulture and Oenology at Plumpton College (2004), I saw a growing need for vineyard services to support the rapidly expanding UK wine industry. While my fellow classmates dreamed of becoming winemakers, I focused my attention on understanding soil, climate, root stock, trellising, pruning, harvesting – everything that goes into growing quality grapes.

Since those humble beginnings, VineWorks has evolved into the UK’s leading vineyard services company having established over 300 vineyards, planted over 4.5 million vines, installed over one million posts, and hand-harvested tens of thousands of tons of grapes.

Today we offer a full range of vineyard support including establishment, vineyard management, vine importation, fruit brokering and retail.

We believe in the future of the UK wine industry. We want to help vineyards become sustainable both financially and environmentally. That’s why we regularly publish articles promoting good viticultural
practice, offer training and fund research into UK-specific innovation.

At VineWorks, we care about the vine’s journey from planting to harvest. That’s why our mission is to support UK vineyards, one vine at a time.

James Dodson

Meet The Team

Chief Executive Officer & Founder – James Dodson

BSc (Hons) Arch, BSc (Hons) Viti/Oeno, DipWSET

James has always loved digging deeper. It inspired his first career in archaeology and later, while working for Oddbins as a Fine Wine Manager for Scotland, it ultimately inspired a wish to be part of the winemaking industry. While studying for his BSc (Hons) in Viticulture and Oenology at Plumpton College, he worked for various vineyards and recognised a growing demand for vineyard services to the ever-expanding English wine industry. With the help of a fellow student, he founded VineWorks in 2006. While growing the business, James also worked in California as a Cellar Hand (2007), and as an Assistant Contract Winemaker for Waverly in the south of France (2008). From there on, with the growth of the UK wine industry and the subsequent demand on the business, VineWorks has demanded all of his attention. These days, rather than digging deeper, James loves flying high and is often to be found paragliding over the Sussex landscape. It is, he says, the perfect way to scope out potential sites!
