WHAT TO DO WITH NEW VINES & HOW TO PREPARE FOR PLANTING

Pre-planting Checklist

Before the vines arrive
◆ Organise where they will be stored. Ideally
a cold store maintained at a constant
temperature of around 4°C.

Pre-planting method
◆ Choose your preferred method, from
trimming roots, hydrating in water or any
other method.

Site management
◆ Site should be well drained, sub-soiled and
fertilised in advance of planting, free from
weeds and a seed bed of 30cm.

Planting method
◆ Choosing between hand planting or using
a machine.

Successful vineyard establishment depends on much more than planting vines in the ground. Careful storage, thorough site preparation, the right planting method and attention to detail at every stage will help young vines establish strong root systems and thrive for years to come. Investing time in getting these first steps right provides the foundation for a healthy, productive and resilient vineyard.
